After a poor run in the league, Thursday’s under12’s B team pulled out all the stops to beat top of the table Undy to go through to the quarter finals in the Ray Powell Cup.
Thursday’s started well, dominating play to have Matthew Tagg hit the post in the first 5 minutes and Charles Hillman denied by the keeper. A good break from Thursday’s defence starting with Jake Heckles playing a lovely 1-2 with Sam Hooton, set Garryn West on a storming run that saw him beat three Undy players, only to have his shot saved, resulting in a corner.
A beautifully delivered corner by West led to a scramble in the box with a goal bound shot by Torin Hillman being handballed by an Undy player. A well executed penalty by West put Thursday’s 1 – 0 up at half time.
Abergavenny Thursday’s started strongly in the second half, playing with the wind against them. An early corner, which was cleared off the line by Undy, led to a one on one with keeper Alex Tipping who pulled off an outstanding save to keep Thursday’s in the lead.
Thursday’s defence worked hard to keep Undy at bay, with dogged determination by the back four, resulting in Man of the Match for Connor Greeves.
